For the Teeth

Excellent cleaning at very low abrasivity – A  study by  the University of Ulm on the Cleaning Performance of Toothpastes placed Ajona Stomaticum first among equals: Ajona guarantees gentle yet effective daily oral and dental care.

For the Gums

If you complain of sensitive gums or sensitive exposed root surfaces, your relief could be found in Ajona toothpaste. The special combination of 23  natural, anti-inflammatory ingredients;  Bisabolol, Eucalyptol, Thymol, Menthavirdis, prevents gingivitis and promotes the regeneration of the gums.

For the tongue

The tongue cleaning is an important part of daily oral care. Ajona undertook a study of Causes of Bad Breath which established that after meals, 80% of food particles get stuck to the tongue. The particles are more concentrated at the back of the tongue and begin to undergo chemical reaction by the bacteria in the mouth. A thorough cleaning of the tongue with Ajona Toothpaste when brushing  eliminates the bad breath causing bacteria and suppresses their multiplication many hours after brushing guaranteeing long lasting fresh breath

Ajona is particularly recommended for;

  •   the complete and successful care for teeth, gums and tongue
  •   for the prevention of dental caries, gingivitis and bad breath
  •   for minor  and major  gum problems
  •   in sensitive, exposed root surfaces
  •   dry mouth
  •   For traveling, convenient  because of its practically small size.

Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory

All frequent dental and gum problems are caused by harmful bacteria. These bacteria excrete metabolic products that attack the tooth structure, irritate and inflame the gums producing bad breath. Due to its special high quality formulation and the 23  natural ingredients Ajona has an antibacterial effect.
Thus Ajona fights the causes of most of  the problems before they arise. The natural mixed flora of the mouth is  optimized, stabilized and their balance, healing and immune system are activated.

Cleans very gently

The cleaning effect of Ajona is particularly gentle and thorough at the same time because of  its soft cleaning particles. The Relative Dentin Abrasion (RDA) which indicates the degree of scrubbing action  is at a very low 30.Ajona is therefore also ideal for sensitive, exposed root surfaces.

The 4-stage mode of action

Ajona is a Toothpaste concentrate for daily care of teeth, gums and tongue. The Ajona recipe is  based on a traditional preparation and proven for the  60 year old tried and tested  four-stage mode of action.

  1. Cleaning the teeth

Excellent cleaning results with low abrasiveness- gentle and effective dental care for every day.

Excellent cleaning at very low abrasiveness

A study by the University of Ulm to the cleaning performance of toothpastes established AjonaStomaticum had a low abrasivity compared to other well known brands.

graphics below show the cleaning results and said by the manufacturers abrasion values (RDA) in comparison. Vector A: cleaning efficiency of commercial toothpastes

Figure B:
The scouring action (abrasion) of toothpaste is indicated by the dentin abrasion RDA. The RDA value of “normal” toothpastes is approximately 70 (medium abrasive) which of Ajona at very low 30 (low abrasion).

Ajona is also ideal due to the effective but very gentle cleaning in sensitive, exposed root surfaces.

  1. Regulate pH

Ajona helps to neutralize acids in the mouth because their formulation is adjusted.

Teeth surfaces where caries and other bacteria settle are slightly acidic.

  1. Antibacterial effect

Ajona very quickly and efficiently eliminates  the harmful bacteria that causes  caries, gingivitis and bad breath.

  1. Remineralization

Due to its high content of calcium and phosphate, the natural main constituents of the tooth structure, Ajona promotes remineralization of the teeth and hardens the tooth structure.

Ingredients and Properties

23 NATURAL INGREDIENTS IN AJONA TOOTHPASTE AND THEIR PROPERTIES

  1. ALGINIC ACID – Alginic acid is an FDA-approved food ingredient in soup and soup mixes as an emulsifier, thickener, and stabilizer It is also available in oral dietary supplements and is found in antacids such as Gaviscon to inhibit gastroesophageal reflux by creating a physical barrier in presence of gastric acid.
  2. ANETHOLE – has a potent inhibitory effect on PD through suppression of pro-inflammatory molecules; therefore it is a novel therapeutic strategy for PD, Periodontitis (PD) is known to be one of most prevalent worldwide chronic inflammatory diseases. There are several treatments including antibiotics for PD; however, since drug resistance isan increasing problem, new drugs particularly derived from plants with fewer side effects are required
  3. AQUA – The properties and benefits of water cannot be overemphasized.
  4. AROMA – Apart from providing a pleasant smell, aroma oils provide respiratory disinfection, decongestant, and psychological benefits. Inhaling essential oils stimulates the olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell, including the nose and the brain.
  5. BISABOLOL – An Analgesic. Scientific studies show a Bisabolol role as a pain A 2011 study suggested Bisabolol’s ability to reduce inflammation and pain, suggesting that Bisabolol has analgesic outcomes
  1. CALCIUM CARBONATE – Fluoride delivered from calcium carbonate-based toothpastes is an effective means of reducing caries
  2. CALCIUM CITRATE -This medication is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. It may be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels such as bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones
  3. CITRONELLOL – An antifungal agent providing relief from pain and inflammation
  4. DIAMMONIUM PHOSPHATE – DAP fertilizer is an excellent source of Phosphorous and nitrogen (N) for plant nutrition. It’s highly soluble and thus dissolves quickly in soil to release plant-available phosphate and ammonium. It sees the gum as fertile grounds and prepares it for healthy teeth growth.
  5. EUCALYPTOL – Primarily used in breaking up mucus that harbours bad breath, freshens breath and also an inflammatory agent. Also treats wounds and respiratory infections
  6. EUGENOL -Numerous studies have reported that eugenol also known as clove oil possesses antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.   Eugenol has been widely used in dentistry to treat toothache and pulpitis. Some dentists use eugenol, a chemical contained in allspice, to kill germs on teeth and gums.
  7. FLOWER OIL – Fights Bad Breath Essential oils such as Peppermint, Tea Tree oil, Myrrh, and Eucalyptus can help fend off bacteria that causes bad breath
  8. GERANIOL – Geraniol, a naturally-occurring terpenoid found in food plants, is often used as a fragrance or ingredient in cosmetics
  9. GLYCERIN -Glycerin is a natural ingredient found in most oral care products to better preserve and sweeten them. A natural agent, glycerin in toothpaste also helps retain the moisture of the paste so it doesn’t dry out in the tube.
  10. LINALOOL – has been shown to help prevent the buildup of bacteria in the mouth, which is why the terpene can be found as an active ingredient in some kinds of toothpaste and gargling solutions.
  11. MENTHA VIRIDIS LEAF OIL – the volatile oil obtained from the dried tops and leaves of the Garden Mint (spearmint) Many health benefits have been attributed to spearmint,

whether consumed fresh or used as an essential oil.

Some people use spearmint to help alleviate symptoms of nausea, indigestion, gas, headache,    toothache, cramps, and sore throat.

It is also applied topically, to the skin, to help reduce swelling due to nerve or muscle pain.

  1. MENTHOL – Its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties help curbthe growth of bacteria in the mouth, further preventing infections. It is an amazing treatment for post tooth-extraction. It helps prevent the swelling in connective tissues and reduces bleeding too.
  2. PERLAGONIUM GRAVEOLENS – Leaves and roots are distilled to obtain Geranium Oil. Grows wild in South Africa. As a constituent in a blended cream or lotion geranium essential oil can be used for clearing sluggish and oily skin, as well as wound, burn and ulcer healing and has value to treat eczema, repelling insects, stones, cellulite, ringworm infections
  3. SODIUM BICARBONATE – Baking soda has natural whitening properties, which is why it’s a popular ingredient in commercial toothpaste. It’s a mild abrasive that can help scrub away surface stains on teeth. Additionally, baking soda creates an alkaline environment in your mouth, which prevents bacteria from growing
  4. SODIUM LAURYL SULPHATE – Sodium lauryl sulfate is one of the most widely used synthetic detergents in toothpaste. Generally, surface active agents lower the surface tension, penetrate and loosen surface deposits and emulsify or suspend the debriswhich the dentifrice removes from the tooth
  5. SODIUM SACCHARIN – Sodium saccharin is a sweetener added to your toothpaste for flavoring. It makes your toothpaste to have that sweet taste for comfort when brushing. Most kinds of toothpaste have flavorings that consist of mint and essential oils. Sodium saccharin is also responsible for killing plaque microbes.
  6. THYMOL – Thyme oil is used as a germ-killer in mouthwashes and liniments. It is also applied to the scalp to treat baldness and to the ears to fight bacterial and fungal infections. Thymol, one of the chemicals in thyme, is used with another chemical, chlorhexidine, as a dental varnish to prevent tooth decay.
  7. UREA–When stored over long periods of time decays into ammonia. Rinsing with arginine or urea solution offers limited remineralizing benefits to enamel lesions over a period of

4 weeks

Due to its high content of calcium and phosphate, the natural main constituents of the tooth structure, Ajona promotes remineralization of the teeth and hardens the tooth structure.

The antibacterial activity

Cause of frequent tooth and gum problems are harmful bacteria. These bacteria excrete metabolic products that attack the tooth structure, irritate and inflame the gums causing bad breath.
Ajona acts through its 23 natural active antibacterial ingredients. Studies have established  that the vast majority of harmful bacteria are eliminated after a very short time. Thus, the causes of the problems are tackled even before they arise. The natural mixed flora of the mouth is thus optimized, stabilized their pH balance, healing and immunity to infection are activated.

Ajona swiftly eliminates harmful bacteria that causes tooth decay, gingivitis and bad breath.

A recent study (University of Jena) confirmed  the strong antimicrobial effect of Ajona.
The figure shows the effect of Ajona against selected germs as compared to a standard commercial toothpaste.

A: Gingivalis  B: Actinomycetemcomitans  C: Mutans D: Albicans

  • Ajona
  • Normal commercial toothpaste

    The germs:

  • Gingivalis and Actinomycetemcomitans are periodontopathogenic germs and  bacteria causing gingivitis.
  • Mutans is the lead germ causing caries.
  • Albicans is a fungus found in the  oral cavity. It can cause inflammation of the oral mucosa

Thus Ajona is highly recommended

  1. for the prevention of gingivitis
  2. for the prevention of periodontitis  (gingivitis with implants)
  3. for the prevention of oral inflammation
  4. for the prevention of caries

Ajona cleanses gently.

The cleaning effect of Ajona is because of their soft creamy texture  which cleans  gently and thoroughly at the same time. The Relative Dentin Abrasion (RDA) , which indicates the degree of abrasivity, is very low 30  compared to  most  toothpastes which  are about RDA 70, whitening toothpastes RDA 100 and higher, thus they are not suitable for daily use. Ajona other hand, is also ideal for sensitive, exposed root surfaces.

* The RDA (Radioactive Dentin Abrasion) is the degree of abrasiveness and thus the risk of damage to the tooth. The lower the value, the safer  the toothpaste.

FAQ

Questions and Answers

Ajona is a toothpaste concentrate. What does that mean?

You need only a lentil-sized amount of Ajona toothpaste  for brushing yet it  achieves a better effect compared to other toothpastes . Just a pea size of  Ajona  fits on the brush head  of a small electronic toothbrush. A Tube of Ajona lasts  some  five times longer than most other toothpastes.            The difference is the high quality  ingredients and the recipe: Almost exclusively natural ingredients like real eucalyptol, thymol or spearmint oil is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. The recipe is formulated so that these highly concentrated agents can be absorbed. The lower toothpaste volume is the result of the over  60 year old preserved and  almost unchanged recipe. Fresh breath, clean teeth healthy and strong gums are the result of daily oral and  dental care with Ajona.

How does Ajona prevent Caries?

Ajona’s caries prevention and  combating strategy is based on our traditional past and proven 60 year old  four stage mode of action working principle:

1) Cleaning the teeth from deposits
2) Neutralization of the pH
3) Antibacterial Activity
4) Remineralization

Why is the remineralization of the tooth structure for caries protection important?

The remineralization describes the re-deposition of minerals on the tooth enamel. Ajona promotes this through its high content of calcium and phosphate, the natural main constituents of the tooth structure and thus hardens the tooth structure. Calcium and phosphate  in human saliva inherently contains and ensures the natural remineralization of the tooth structure. The presence of calcium and phosphate in Ajona gives users  a temporary oversupply of these two natural main constituents of the teeth into the oral cavity.  This then leads to an increased deposition on the tooth structure.

Why is cleaning the teeth of plaque so important for the prevention of caries?

Excellent cleaning at very low abrasivity : A study at the University of Ulm into the Cleaning Performance of Toothpastes, medical toothpaste concentrate Ajona Stomaticum came up outstanding. The measurement results show that very good cleaning results do not necessarily go hand in hand with high abrasivity. For a gentle but very effective dental care for every day,            the combination of a highly efficient cleaning and gentleness of a toothpaste is indispensable.       The following graphs show the cleaning results as said by the manufacturer’s abrasion values (RDA) in comparison. They are based on a study by the University of Ulm on the Cleaning Performance of various toothpastes (2009). Figure A: Cleaning efficiency of commercial toothpastes graphic A: The zero line (water = 0) indicates the cleaning action of the toothbrush and water without toothpaste. Normal cleaning toothpastes are about 5 points on this line, good clean 10 or more points. Poor cleaning toothpastes are at or below the zero line. Figure B: abrasion values of commercially available toothpastes Figure B: The scouring action (abrasion) of toothpaste is indicated by the Relative  Dentin Abrasion ( RDA). The RDA value for “normal” toothpastes is approximately 70 (medium abrasive) with that  of Ajona at very low 30(low abrasion).               Ajona is also ideal due to the effective but very gentle cleaning in sensitive, exposed root surfaces.

What does the pH  do in the oral cavity with caries?

Ajona helps to neutralize acids in the mouth.. Our mouths contain bacteria. These bacteria are able to change deposits of sugar left on the surface of our teeth (enamel) after meals into acids. These acids in turn attack and dissolve the enamel causing tooth decay. However, after brushing with Ajona Toothpaste, the natural ingredients neutralize the acids produced by the bacteria in our mouth leaving along lasting clean fresh breath.

Why doesAjona not contain fluoride?

Ajona is a fluoride-free toothpaste. However Ajona Toothpaste makes up for the absence of fluoride with  its high content of calcium and phosphate, the natural main constituents of the tooth structure and thus hardens the tooth structure.
